Breathwork FAQ’s

What are the common side effects of Breathwork?

Breathwork is an absolutely safe practice. However, everyone’s body is different and some people’s bodies and nervous systems having endured past trauma can have a lot of unprocessed emotions which could be unearthed during this work. As a result of it 30% of our breathers experience a common physical side effect called “tetany” which is cramping of the muscles which can be uncomfortable at times. This usually passes within 15 minutes or some time shortly after. Some people experience ringing in the ears for 20 mins after the session, or feel the need to shake, scream, or move around. This is all energetic release of stuck unprocessed emotions in the body.

I feel a lot of uncomfortable emotions. Is this normal?

It absolutely is perfectly fine to experience emotional responses after the experience. What we don’t release intentionally gets stuck in our body and our bodies keeps the score. Unprocessed emotions can manifest itself as physical ailments, and pain which can unearth as a result of this practice. The stuck emotions we are holding on to are released in the form of crying, shaking, jumping, moving, and screaming. Do not judge, resist, or supress the emotion, instead be with it notice it and let it pass through you. No emotion is felt forever but the ones that are not released get stuck and wreaks havoc on your body and nervous systems causing you to be easily stressed, tethered, and feel fearful and anxious. Research on emotions state that “emotions are not good or bad, they are just signals and information” so don’t try to create stories around them, try to figure out where they came from, instead just breath, relax and release them. You will find yourself feeling much lighter and clearer overtime.

I am getting vivid visuals during and after the practice, is this normal?

Yes completely. When we release energy from our body we tap into our emotions that call upon images from this life or our past lives. About 30% of the people get visuals as they are start this practice and get deeper into this work.

Is Breathwork safe during pregnancy and while breastfeeding?

We recommend against deeper transformational work during pregnancy due to unearthing of emotions and changes in the body’s energy systems, but can help mothers do some integrative relaxation work to help their systems calm. It is highly recommended prenatal to heal past trauma and to create a healthy energetic environment in preparation of the baby. Deep transformational pattern and breath blends and deeper work is recommended postnatal to heal from the birthing experience and consciously help the body get back its healthy equilibrium. It is absolutely safe while breastfeeding.
